APICOEACTOMY

WHAT IS AN APICOECTOMY?

An apicoectomy involves removing inflamed or infected tissue surrounding a problematic tooth, as well as the end of the tooth root. This procedure aims to preserve the tooth, preventing the need for extraction.

There are various scenarios where an apicoectomy becomes essential, like when a tooth is fractured or has a hole in its root. Rest assured, we recommend this procedure only when it's vital for maintaining the health and integrity of your smile. Our priority is to ensure your dental well-being while keeping your smile bright and intact.

THE APICOECTOMY TREATMENT PROCESS

We start by administering a local anesthetic to numb the area around the affected tooth, ensuring your comfort.

A small incision is then made in the gums to access the tooth roots. We carefully remove a few millimeters from the root tips and eliminate any infected tissue present. Following this, we meticulously clean and seal the inside of the tooth to minimize the risk of future infections. Finally, the gums are sutured back to their original position to promote healing. This process is designed to be as efficient and pain-free as possible, prioritizing your dental health and comfort.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY APICOECTOMY?

After the local anesthetic wears off, you may experience some minor discomfort and swelling in the area around the treated tooth. These side effects will gradually diminish as you recover, and it should only take about a day or two before you can return to your normal activities. If there’s still an existing infection in your mouth, you may be prescribed some antibiotics.
